About Me:

Prior to getting into the only career/industry I ever wanted to do goes back to when I was 10 years old! I volunteered and spent 6 years in the Army (3 active & 3 inactive) While it's the thing I am most proud of the main reason I volunteered was to get into the Radio Broadcasting MOS . When I met with the recruiter I told him I would volunteer but would only do it if he could get me into the Armed Forces Radio Network. A few days later he called me sounding excited & said he had "GREAT news"! He continued to inform me that he had been EXTREMELY lucky to get me a MOS (Military Occupation Specialties) very similar to radio broadcasting and that the things I would learn for that MOS would be things I would ultimately have to learn to be involved in radio broadcasting. I became as excited as he seemed to be for me! Now, anyone who has dealt with a military recruiter knows they will tell you whatever you want to hear. I ended up in Tele-Communications with Cryptography Technology, back then it was cutting edge technology, now...not so much! 30 odd years later that cutting edge technology would be as relevant as using 2 tin cans with string between for a "phone". After getting out of the military I ended up stumbling into my "Dream" Radio career! As lucky as I was to work in my dream career the only other event in my life as GREAT as getting into Radio was when my then wife delivered our son. My time spent in the Army is still the thing I did that I am the most proud of. It worked out even better as my late Dad was a Marine who served in the Korean War & my first full duty station was Camp Stanley Korea. I wasn't thrilled when I got the orders but when you're single & 19 in a foreign country....let's just say I am very proud to have served and really loved my time in Korea. When you're in the final year of your commitment to the military they try anything within their power to recommit for another 6 years. I let them know I would re-up IF they could either make my next duty station in Alaska OR extend my time in Korea for at least another year. I filled out my Korea extension papers but my "butterball" 2nd LT lost the papers and, for whatever reason, didn't tell me about it until it was too late to re-file them. It didn't work out well for him either because he had to explain to his boss why he didn't get me to stay in the military for another 6 years. One of the guys I was stationed in the ROK with was from Arkansas. When I arrived he had already been serving in Korea for over 5 years! In fact, when my time in Korea was up Alan was still there. I would have seriously considered staying in IF I had been able to stay in Korea. Back then you could retire with half pay for the rest of your life after 10 years served. While I regret NOT doing that it all really worked out perfectly because I've worked in Radio for over 30 years now!
