This was an excellent character driven movie. This is what happens when you have good actors able to set the mood of the movie and draw you in to the stories they have to tell. I think some might find it slow, however for me the pace fits the movie and gives all the stories a chance to be told without feeling rushed. I liked the female dynamic to the movie that really added to the boys coming of age storyline. I am a huge fan of Annette Bening. Really well done 8/10

Well made home-spun movie about a free-spirited mother raising her 15 year old son, who is coming of age in the late 1970s. Her son learns about women and life from his mother, but also from two girls living in the same large house. It's a character driven, rather than a plot driven movie, with some very funny scenes. The tone is almost a dark comedy, and it has a kind of Cameron Crowe feel to it. But director Mike Mills steers the story in a way that draws you in and makes you wish you could spend more time with the family. The ethereal score is also excellent. 7/10

I like the way the storyline is presented, highlighting the idiosyncratic moods of the period, revolving around Annette Bening character, perfect as a woman coming to terms with the new social mores and quickly adapting to the changes...enjoyable plot, witty dialogues, great supporting cast, challenging sound track ranging from ballads to punk, but never invasive during the heart warming togetherness of the events.....good watch,8/10.

A deeply human, complex story of several generations of women, and the young man coming of age who knows and connects them all. I love this movie. Perfect casting. Annette Bening always makes you care about her character, and in this, she is a quietly memorable woman walking carefully with a foot in two different worlds. Elle Fanning is flawless, fearless and heartbreaking. Billy Crudup is adorable, hits just the right notes. Full of heart, great scenes, memories of early punk rock that were fun, generation gaps, and real life. Totally worth the watch even if you're afraid.

Likable characters and they were well portrayed but the script I found lackluster or maybe it was the pacing and I simply got bored with this one, I like these types of movies but this one just did't do it for me.

mygod! I should've known that Annete Bening's movie would be her typical unnecessarily utterly depressing and POINTLESS. Its not depressing story but She acts like a constantly depressed woman. Theres too many depressing score thrown in to totally normal scene. Theres not really depth or any elements of the whole movie that was slightly relatable, Its just weird scene after weird scene plus Annette Bening's depressed look. Just typical Hollywood scenario, where Women are potrayed and treated and act just like a piece of meat. Ugh totally pointless. Waste of my data!
