I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time. Winnie the Pooh has always been my favorite childhood book. Throughout my adult life, it stayed special to me. I had thought - hoped - this movie would be similar to the movie "Miss Potter'' and her books about Peter Rabbit. Something magical for those of us who have loved Winnie the Pooh. But it wasn't even close. Instead, this movie actually destroys your love for it. The entire film is a misery! A miserable family who resented the people who love Winnie the Pooh. I can't believe this actually became a movie. A documentary would have been more appropriate. But how the hell are people who have loved Winnie the Pooh for a lifetime supposed to feel about being told they aren't even appreciated for it? Even, in part, to blame for the snobby Milne family's dysfunctional unhappiness? A stoic one minute at the end is supposed to override an hour and a half of resentment and bitterness? Seriously?

I'm halfway thru this movie and have to comment with what I'm seeing so far. I had forgotten about this movie until I saw the other comment. I initially said I didn't understand what the hell the other comment was about. The story is about a son that helps his father recover (for the most part) from PTSD. However, Winnie the Pooh stories didn't just help the father recover from PTSD. It helped the world recover. Honestly, this happened before my time, so I didn't see how the world glommed onto the family, but I understand it. It is sad. It is what it is though. This isn't much different from the world we still live in today. We've always needed to do better. Maybe one day we will.

I will say, don't watch this movie if you want your fondness for WtP left happy and undisturbed. It's well done in every way, but focuses so much on A.A. Milne's struggles and weaknesses, his stunningly insipid wife, and his son's ultimate suffering for being the inspiration behind Christopher Robin. It's a compelling story but not emotionally helpful information.
